RAWALPINDI: Hina Javed was reportedly sexually assaulted after being murdered, as forensic evidence collected from the crime scene pointed towards the involvement of her domestic servant, according to a DNA analysis report.
DNA samples from the deceased were also compared with those of her husband and the domestic servant.
The Punjab government had constituted a three-member high-powered committee to review the investigation into the murder case, in which her husband and a domestic servant had been placed on judicial remand in Adiala Jail.
The committee recently vis-ited the crime scene, questioned the deceased woman`s husband and the domestic servant in jail, and met members of her family.
The committee comprises Additional Inspector General of the Crime Control Department (CCD) Sohail Chattha, DIG Lahore Shoaib Khurram Janbaz and SSP Investigation Rawalpindi Saifullah.
An analysis of the postmortem and DNA reports indicated that the forensic evidence collected in connection with the murder pointed towards the involvement of the domestic servant.
The report noted that, although the husband and his father were biologically related, the DNA profile contained a mixture of genetic material from at least three individuals. The father, son and their domesticworker could not be excluded as contributors of male DNA to the mixed profile.
The DNA of the husband matched that of Hina, while the DNA of his father did not match any of the other samples.
However, the report suggested that further evidence was required to advance the investigation and reach a conclusion.
According to the report, DNA from bloodstains, a bedsheet allegedly used for strangulation, a door lock and a door latch matched the DNA of the domestic servant.
The evidence collected by the police included swabs from Hina Javed`s left-hand fingernails, samples taken from her body, and cut pieces of a bedsheet bearing suspected bloodstains and spermatozoa. These samplesmatched the blood of the domestic servant, the report suggested.
A reddish piece of carpet bearing suspected stains was also recovered from the southeastern bedroom of the apartment where the crime took place. The stains matched the blood and sperm samples of the domestic servant, accordingto the report.
Expressing mistrust in the Rawalpindi police investigation, Hina Javed`s family has demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe the murder.
The family has alleged that the main accused is being protected while the domestic servant is being held responsible.
`The three-member committee will analyse the findings of the forensic report, although it has already been examining the case files sent to it in Lahore,` asource said.
The source added that no deadline had been set for submitting the committee`s report, as some forensic reports were still awaited.
According to sources, the Punjab Forensic Science Agency`s (PFSA) findings contained crucial evidence pointing towards the domestic servant`s alleged role in Hina Javed`s murder. However, police authorities have remained tight-lipped about the agency`s findings.
The initial postmortem examination and police report had stated that Hina Javed`s body was found in the washroom of her apartment with signs of torture. The report noted a strangulation mark around her neck, an injury below her right lip and bleeding from her nose.
