LAHORE: Former University of Gujrat vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nizamuddin has been appointed chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Prof Nizamuddin on the recommendation of the Search Committee.

The commission is currently functioning under the Punjab Higher Education Commission Ordinance 2014 promulgated by the governor. The ordinance was tabled before the Punjab Assembly and was consequently referred to the Standing Committee on Education.

It is learnt that a few amendments have already been proposed including renaming the new establishment as Tertiary Education Commission, Punjab. The Standing Committee on Education is expected to present the finalised draft of the Bill before the house during its next sitting.

DEAN: The governor has appointed Punjab University College of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences Principal Prof Dr Shahid Kamal as Dean Faculty of Sciences for three years.
