LAHORE: An opposition lawmaker has sought details of the Punjab government advertising expenditure for the last two financial years, questioning the transparency and public benefit of the spending on publicity of government projects and initiatives.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-backed opposition member Waqas Mahmood Mann (PP-124) submitted an adjournment motion seeking a complete account of advertising expenditure incurred during fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
The motion points out that public funds are used to publicise government schemes, development projectsand various official initiatives, making transparency and effective oversight of such spending essential.
Mr Mann said advertising expenditure incurred by different government departments was not consolidated, making effective monitoring difficult. He called for the government to disclose how much was spent on each medium, project and government initiative.
He also questioned whether the benefits generated by government advertising justified the expenditure, saying the issue needed to be examined from the perspective of public needs and financial priorities. Staff Reporter
