QUETTA: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Balochistan chief MPA Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch has demanded effective measures to stop illegal trawling in the province’s waters, saying the activity was depriving local fishermen of their livelihoods, particularly those living in Gwadar’s coastal areas.

At a meeting with Fisheries Director General Atiqur Rehman, he discussed measures to prevent illegal trawling, protect the livelihoods of local fishermen, ensure transparent registration of fishermen and promote sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

He urged the department to further strengthen patrolling and monitoring systems in Gwadar’s coastal areas and take measures against illegal trawling in accordance with the law.—Staff Reporter
