Pre-arrest bail granted to PTl leaders

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday granted pre-arrest bail to various leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in another case of May 25 long march-related violence registered with Bhati Gate police station.

The PTl leaders who appeared before the court include Dr Yasmin Rashid, Hammad Azhar, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Andleeb Abbas, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema and his wife Musarrat Jamshed.

The court allowed the bail to them till June 28. The court had already granted them pre-arrest bail in two other similar cases registered with Gulberg and Shahdara police stations.

Separately, a sessions court extended till June 27 the pre-arrest bail of nine MPAs of the PTl in a case relating to violence inside the Punjab Assembly on the election of the new chief minister.

The MPAs include opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan, Murad Raas, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed.

The court also confirmed their pre-arrest bails in a case of alleged torture on police during the long march. The applicants were directed to deposit bail bonds of Rs50,000 each. The court disposed of the bail petition of Dr Rashid as being withdrawn after police declared her innocent in the case.
