Judicial commission issues notices to MLO, Raza’s workers

KARACHI: The judicial commission, formed to investigate the circumstances and possible negligence in the Mir Raza Ali murder case, on Friday issued notices to director general health of Sindh, a medico-legal officer, employees of the deceased and others for Sept 21.

The commission headed by Justice Omar Sial of the Sindh High Court also expressed resentment towards the authorities concerned for not timely providing the daily diaries record of two police stations.

It further said that daily diaries of Ferozabad and Gulistan-i-Jauhar police stations were provided in sealed condition, unfortunately these documents were submitted after the commission had already examined the witnesses connected with such record.

Thereafter, the commission returned the record in sealed condition to the focal person of Sindh government.

It stated that Karachi police chief Azad Khan and head of investigation team DIG Amir Farooqui were respected police professionals with an impressive track record. Therefore, it has decided to send them questionnaires through a lawyer and asked both the police officers to furnish theirrespective replies by Sept 24 as the commission was struggling to meet its deadline.

It also issued notices to DG health services of Sindh, victim’s employees Kazim and Omair Khan, Ahmed Hasan Shaikh, said to be a creditor, medicallegal officer Dr Osama Sheikh and Ali Shaaz for Monday.

The commission, also mandated to make recommendations for further investigation as well as forensic analysis or legal/departmental action, was formed last month under the Sindh Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance, 1969 and it was likely to conclude the probe in 30 days and submit the findings to the provincial government.

Meanwhile, the SHC on Thursday issued notice to the State Bank of Pakistan on an application filed by the team, probing Mir Raza murder case, seeking details of the victim’s bank transactions for Oct 1.

The applicant submitted that the investigation team had approached the SBP to provide details of the victim’s bank accounts and transactions as the same were required for investigation, but the central bank has sought a court order for provision of such record.
