GUJRAT: Federal minister and senior vice president of PML-Q Chaudhry Salik Hussain has termed the Gujrat police a highly politicised police.
He made these remarks while responding to a question during media talk at the Zahoor Elahi Stadium after getting a briefing by the Water and Sanitation Agency on the progress of city sewerage and drainage schemes.
The minister said PML-Q MPs had complained to him about being kept behind as well as having no connect with the district police.
‘I, too, had no meeting so far with the Gujrat district police officer,’ he said. He said he would talk to the Punjab police chief as well as the DPO about the crime situation in Gujrat district.
The incumbent DPO Faisal Shahzad was posted in Gujrat on Aug 13 after the surprise transfer of SSP Akhtar Farooq as Gujrat DPO just within four months of his posting.
The transfer of Akhtar Farooq was reportedly made in the wake of registration of a case against some PML-N workers for resorting to aerial firing during a rally in Jalalpur Jattan city to celebrate the victory of party nominee on the refugees seat of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls on Aug 2 last.
The rift between the local ranks and file of the coalition partners the PML-Q and PML-N hasbeen a cause of concern for officials of local authorities of administration and police who often have to face embarrassing situations due to the tug of war.
The PML-Q has three MNAs and seven MPAs from Gujrat district whereas the PML-N has one MNA. An MPA belongs to the PTI.
The senior PML-Q leader also supported the idea of creating new administrative units in the country and before bringing the proposal to the parliament, the opinion of masses must also be taken into consideration.
