QWP voices concern over security situation, rising inflation

CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the province was facing repeated incidents of terrorism while the provincial government appeared focused on politics of protests.

He was speaking at a ceremony in Khwaja Was area of Shabgadar tehsil on Friday, where several Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers and local political figures announced to join QWP along with their families and associates.

The new entrants included Nazir Khan, Mohammad Rehman, Naseeb Khan, Aseel Khan, Abdullah, Amirullah, Sulaiman, Taj Khan, Badshah Gul, Tawaab Khan, Jabar Khan, Abbas Khan, Rashid Khan, Faheem Khan, Hayat Khan Haji and Sabir Khan.

Mr Sherpao said his party was not opposed to PTI’s right to hold protests, but arguedthat the office of chief minister required attention to public service, good governance and constitutional responsibilities rather than political confrontation.

He said the repeated increase in petroleum prices by the federal government had added to the difficulties faced by ordinary people. He claimed that the government was still collecting Rs119 per litre levy on petrol and Rs105 per litre on diesel.

He criticised what he described as the government’s austerity measures, saying the burden of the economic crisis should not constantly be shifted onto the common citizen. He called for curbs on what he termed unnecessary expenditure and excessive use of public resources.

According to Mr Sherpao, the government’s economic policies had failed to control inflation or provide adequate relief to citizens. He urged the authorities to review their priorities, warning that continued price increases could contribute to further public frustration.
