ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau arrested an official of the Balochistan Development Authority on Thursday for his alleged involvement in corruption in a road project.
According to a NAB spokesman, BDA`s Assistant Director General Mohammad Nawaz Bankar and contractor Nehal Ahmed had been arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption in a 30km Dobandi Toba Achakzai Road constructed between Pishin and Qila Abdullah districts.
The NAB had earlier arrested three other officials of the BDA in the same case.
The spokesman agreed that the NAB had been focusing on low-grade bureaucrats and people in the private sector instead of politicians. `The NAB does not believe in political victimisation,` he said.
According to the NAB, not a single reference was filed against any politician for over three months. The last reference was filed on Nov 11 last year against former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
The spokesman said the NAB filed 152 references during the past one year and recovered over Rs4 billion, in addition to six references related to a Modaraba scam in which it recovered Rs1.73bn and confiscated more than 4,000 kanals of land.
