DADU: More than 15 shops were gutted in the main market of Jhangara Union council in Sehwan taluka of Jamshoro district after a big fire broke out on Saturday.
Mobile phones and other electronic items, as well as other goods present in the affected vegetable stores, food outlets, eateries and stalls, were reduced to ashes.
Operators of the businesses and locals initially tried to bring the fire under control on their own but it continued tointensify despite their hectic efforts.
According to them, the fire was started by an electrical short circuit. The electric supply had suspended as soon as the fire broke out.
‘However, the blaze intensified when electricity was unexpectedly restored, some of them noted, and said the flames engulfed even rooftops of shops in the market. ‘A delay in the arrival of fire brigade also contributed to the spread of the blaze,’ they said.
The fire brigade and a rescue team from Sehwan arrived at the market and brought the blaze under control after two hours of efforts. They succeeded in preventing the fire from engulfing many adjacent shops and other structures.
No casualties in the incident were reported.
