LAKKI MARWAT: A proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with police in the Darra Pezu town of Lakki Marwat district on Friday night.
An official said that police received information that a gang of highwaymen was looting vehicles on the Bannu-Dera Ismail Khan section of Indus Highway. He said that a team of Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station was dispatched to the mountainous terrain to ensure the arrest of outlaws.
“Upon seeing police, the outlaws opened fire to evade arrest,” the official said, adding that the law-enforcers took up positions and returned fire.
He said that an exchange of fire lasted for 15 minutes and thereafter the police found the body of an outlaw during a search operation, while other members of the gang escaped.
He said the police also seized a motorcycle, mobile phones, an assault rifle and ammunition from the spot and shifted the body to the hospital.
“The slain was later identified as Imran, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan, and was also wanted by the police in a murder case,” he added.
Meanwhile, terrorists abducted and later killed a social activist in the mountains near the Shah Hasankhel area of Lakki Marwat district, police said on Saturday.
They said that terrorists kidnapped Sanaullah, president of a local social welfare body, and shifted him to their mountainous hideout.
“Sanaullah was later killed, and his body was dumped in the mountains,” they said, adding that villagers collected the body and shifted it to the hospital to complete medico-legal formalities.
A resident said the deceased was the brother of Shah Hasankhel peace committee president Mushtaq Khan and was known for social work in the area.
