ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has now decided to address the issue of regularising the services of daily wage teachers.

`We are serious and we are going to resolve the issue very soon. We are thinking positively for those who fulfil the criteria,` said CADD Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

The minister said he has been holding meetings with various stakeholders including teachers` representatives and the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).`We have almost finalised our policy in this regard,` he said and refused to give details of the policy according to which the services of the teachers will be regularised.

However, CADD officials told Dawn that there are chances thatthe cases of the teaching and non-teaching staff working in and below grade 14 will be decided by CADD and that it is yet to be decided if FPSC is a competent authority for making recruitments in grade16 and above.

`We are working on various proposals and FSPC could be asked to recruit via the onecandidate-one-post formula or the teachers could be given grace marks in interviews,` an of ficial said.Around 2,000 teaching and non-teaching staf f have been working in schools and colleges working under the Federal Directory of Education (FDE) as daily wage teachers for many years and CADD has so far not regularised their services.

An of ficial said around 2,300 teaching posts were vacant in FDE run institutions.

The minister said that CADD is soon going to start with revamping 200 schools under the Prime Minister`s Education Reform Program.

`CADD is executing the project itself, maybe through the Project Management Unit or the Capital Development Authority, he said.
