Funeral prayers for Navy personnel offered

KARACHI: Funeral prayers for two Pakistan Navy personnel, who embraced martyrdom in an attack on a Navy vehicle in Jiwani on Monday, were offered here on Tuesday.

Syed Hassan Raza (medical technician) and Khalil Murad (leading fireman) lost their lives while several others were wounded in the attack by four assailants on two motorcycles on their vehicle transporting Iftar items during a routine run from Jiwani.

The funeral held here at PNS Shifa Hospital was also attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah.

The naval chief condemned the attack and condoled with the bereaved families. Expressing grief and sorrow over the incident, he said that such heinous and cowardly acts could not deter the national resolve of the Pakistan Navy to stand against terrorism.

The Admiral added that the great sacrifices of martyrs for national defence and rooting out terrorism in the country were highly praiseworthy.

He said that the handful of terrorists could not succeed in their nefarious designs of destabilising the country. He reiterated that Pakistan Navy, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, is committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism in the country.

He prayed for eternal peace of the martyred souls and grant ofcourage to the bereaved families to bear the loss and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured when he visited them at the hospital. He also met their families.

Senior officials and men of the Pakistan Navy, personnel of sister services, relatives, friends and a large number of people also attended the funeral.
