Pakistan Army bags top positions in sit-ups

LAHORE: The Pakistan Army made a clean sweep winning all the top three positions in the sit-ups contest of the first International PACES Competition-2016 at Ayub Stadium here on Thursday.
Sabir Husain, Sepoy Mohammad Faisal and Mohammad Niaz grabbed the first, second and third positions, respectively.
It was the third six-day contest when the army won the gold, silver and bronze medals. Overall, 325 athletes belonging to the armies of 14 countries took part in the situps contest. The participating athletes were divided into six groups and each of them exhibited a rigorous display of resolution and endurance during the 30-minute time.
Pakistan Army soldier Sabir took the first positioncompleting 2,076 sit-ups in the allotted time. Sepoy Mohammad Faisal completed 2,061 sit-ups and Mohammad Niaz 2,034 situps and got second and third positions, respectively.
On Friday, the competition of push-ups will be held in the morning.
The Australian Army cricket team will play a match against the PCB`s U-20 XI at Qadhafi Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Australian Army cricket team and athletes of the armies of 14 other countries, currently participating in the events, visited several historical places on Thursday. They visited the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal, Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort.
The city tour ended with a demonstration by jawans of the Rangers during the flagceremony parade at Wagah Border.
