KARACHI: A young man said to be a passer-by was shot dead and another wounded in the Kalakot area of Lyari during an exchange of fire between two rival gangs operating in the area on Friday, the police said.

They added that the man was gunned down near the Azad Hospital in the Nawalane area. The other man, Abdul Ghaffar, received bullet woundswhen members of rival gangs allegedly attacked each other with guns.

The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where its identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The police said the hospital area was dominated by the Uzair Baloch group while the mill area was under the control of Noor Mohammed alias Baba Ladla gang and members of the both groups were at daggers drawn and attacked each other.
