Five office-bearers of PTI Bajaur cabinet resign

BAJAUR: Five officebearers of the newlyformed cabinet of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Bajaur Chapter resigned from their positions the other day, citing workers’ opposition to the district body’s formation.

Sources in the PTI told Dawn that Malik Rahatullah Khan, senior vice-president, and Gul Hakeem Khan, vice-president, were among those who resigned from their positions.

The party’s provincial general secretary had announced the formation of the Bajaur cabinet three days ago.

The sources claimed that more cabinet members were likely to resign, as party workers were unhappy with the decision.

Rahatullah, also the party’s candidate for PK-22 in the 2024 by-election, and Gul Hakeem shared their resignations on social media, citing local leaders’ and workers’ concerns over the formation of the district cabinet as the sole reason.

‘We are thankful to the party’s central and provincial leaderships for reposing trust in us, but we are resigning from ourpositions as the selection of the cabinet members was not in accordance with the consent of local leaders,’ they stated in their posts.

The resignations emerged a day after PTI local leaders on Friday rejected the newly announced Bajaur cabinet.

The leaders had alleged that most cabinet members had no contribution to the party, and lacked support among workers. Talking to reporters, PTI former senior vice-president Mambar Khan, former vice-president Lugman Khan Khan and others had denounced the formation of the new cabinet, alleging that most people in the cabinet had no standing in the party.

The PTI leaders claimed that most workers were unhappy with the decision as it ignored committed, sincere, and ideological workers who had stood firmly with party founder chairman Imran Khan’s narrative despite facing hardships and detention following the May 9, 2023 incident.

They urged both the party’s central and provincial leadership to ensure cabinet members were nominated with the consent of local workers.
