PTI committee to plan, execute long march

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has constituted a six-member organising committee for the Lahore district to independently take actions, and devise and implement all plans for the better functioning of the party in Lahore district.

The committee convened by party ticket-holder Malik Zaheer Abbas comprises Haroon Akbar, Asghar Gujjar, Awais Anjum, Yasir Gillani and Amir Qureshi.

Posting the notification on his X handle, Mr Raja stated that the ‘wrongful’ arrests of Alima Bibi, Nooreen Bibi and Azmi Bibi, along with the attacks and arrests of workers, ministers, and parliamentarians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad, had given a new dimension to collective responsibility.

‘We must proceed with foresight and consensus. In light of the fascist onslaught on the entirety of Punjab and particularly Lahore, a committee hasbeen formed to manage party affairs in Lahore District through consultation and agreement,’ he says.

Mr Raja says contact had also been maintained with the party organisations of all four regions across Punjab on Sunday. Consultations will continue to be held with the PTI MPAs from Punjab on Monday and Tuesday, he adds.

Speaking to Dawn, Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar said the committee had been constituted because all the Lahore district leadership, including president Mian Akram Usman, had already been arrested.

‘Any person, who is given any party responsibility, is being kidnapped by the Punjab police,’ he alleged.

Asserting that holding a peaceful protest is their legal and constitutional right, Mr Khokhar said the committee would make plans after holding consultations on how to go for the Sept 27 ‘long march’. Staff Reporter
