Story

AFIEnergyPakistan Limited, formerly Shell Pakistan, is one of the oldest energy companies in the country, shaping the nation’s energy landscape since 1947. Today, Wafi Energy Pakistan Limited is the exclusive licensee of Shell fuels and lubricants in Pakistan. It brings together the trust and international standards of the Shell brand. Wafi Energy’s regional strength and deep local capability serve customers and invest for Pakistan’s long-term energy needs.

Pakistan’s energy story is no longer only about how much fuel the country consumes. It is about how reliably that fuel can move, how efficiently it can be delivered, how customer needs are changing, and whether the infrastructure being built today can support the country’s growth tomorrow.

Wafi Energy’s journey in Pakistan began in 2024, when Wafi Energy Holding acquired an 87.78 per cent stake in what was then Shell Pakistan Limited. It also brought together three important strengths: the trust and international standards associated with the Shell brand, relationships and regional perspective connected to the Middle East, and a business with roots in Pakistan stretching back to 1947.

Pakistan is a country of more than 250 million pe ople, with growing mobility needs, increasing digi-tal adoption and customers who expect convenience with consistency and quality. Meeting that opportunity requires more than addingfuelstations.

It requires investment across the energy value chain. From retail, lubricants and customer experience to building energy security and supply, storage, distribution, and the infrastructure keep supply moving.

The company’s story is inseparable from the story of Pakistan itself. From the early 1950s, Burmah Shell supplied oil and related products to emerging industries, while its technical teams worked with mills and factories to select fuels and lubricants and use them efficiently.

Its products powered double-decker buses, supported the rapid expansion of rail traffic and fueled Pakistan International Airlines’inauguralKarachi-Dhaka service in 1954; its bitumen also helped build the Lahore-toKarachi stretch of the historic Grand Trunk Road.

In the 1960s, Burmah Shell supplied petroleum products for the construction of Mangla Dam and substantial supplies to nine other Indus Basin Replacement Works projects and Kotri Barrage. That record of supporting transportation, irrigation, power generation and industry give the company’s heritage substantive meaning today.Today, Wafi Energy operates more than 700 Shell retail sites across Pakistan, including morethan 180 Shell Select stores that extend the customer experience beyond fuel, while Shell Rechargefacilities support the country’s emerging electric-mobility needs.

The company has strategic countrywide oil terminal facilities and its own dedicated lubricants blending plant.

Wafi Energy recently inaugurated a new 7.4 million litre motor gasoline storage tank at its Tarru Jabba terminal in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The additional capacity strengthens the company’s ability to hold and distribute products in the north and creates a platform for further retail network expansion across the region.

The company is also the largest private investor in the strategic White Oil Pipeline operated by Pak Arab Pipeline Company.

Reliable supply requires investment beyond the retail and lubricants networks, and stronger distribution capability benefits businesses, consumers and the wider economy.

The same approach extends to lubricants. Wafi Energy serves both consumer and industrial segments, while continuing to invest in product development, customer engagement, strategic partnerships and mechanic relationships.

The company serves consumer automotive customers through Shell Helix and motorcyclists through Shell Advance, while Shell Rimula supports commercial vehicles and heavy-duty transport. The portfolio combines locally blendedproducts, a broad distribution network and Shell’s global product technology with customer needs.

The company provides technical expertise to customers in fleet operations, construction, mining, power and data centres, agriculture and life sciences, and manufacturing and steel.

The objective is to bring dependable quality, technical innovation and global brand standards for our consumers.

This has been a challenging year for industry, with disruption to global supply routes and continued volatility in costs. From March, supply routes into the country were disrupted and global energy prices moved significantly, sometimes overnight.

The company’s priority was and continues to be national supply security for our customers maintaining supply, serving customers and continuing to invest through a difficult environment.

The company’s vision is to be a trusted and innovative partner, collaboratively building a sustainable energy future for the people of Pakistan. Two years into this chapter, Wafi Energy’s direction is clear: keep growing and keep serving Pakistan’s evolving energy needs. The ambition is not simply to participate in the country’s energy future, but to help build the reliable, accessible and customer-first energy system that Pakistan’s future can depend on. •
