Aurat March Verdict on plea for case against participants reserved

LAHORE: A sessions court on Wednesday reserved verdict on a petition seeking registration of a case against the participants in Aurat March2019 for their alleged immoral act.

Amina Malik of Civil Society Network filed the petition under section 22-A and 22-B of CrPC pleading that an application had been submitted to the Civil Lines station house officer (SHO) for registration of an FIR against the participants in the Aurat March.

Petitioner`s counsel Azhar Siddique concluded his arguments saying the act of the women participants in the march was against the Constitution and Islamic injunctions.

He asked the court toorder the police to lodge a case against the participants including singer Meesha Shafi and rights activist Nighat Dad.

In compliance with the court`s direction, district complaint officer of police Faisal Mukhtar filed a report and stated that no immoral or cognisable offence was committed by the participants in the march.

The report said the women had taken out a rally outside governor house to marl( world women day and police also provided them security. It asked the court to dismiss the petition for being frivolous and uncalled for.

After hearing the arguments and placing the police report on record, Additional District & Sessions Judge Amir Habib reserved verdict on the petition.
