2017-12-23
RAWALPINDI: Law enforcement agencies across Punjab have been instructed to increase security checks and surveillance in major public places for Dec 25, which is Quaid-i-Azam Day as well as Christmas and for New Years’ celebrations.

The Punjab Home Department issued a guideline to divisional police chiefs across the province regarding security arrangements for Christmas and New Years’.

Three to four layers of security cover will be maintained for all churches under all circumstances. The home department has said some elements may conduct terrorist activities during this time and that extra measures of security should therefore be taken in order to avoid any untoward situation.

Major events are usually held to celebrate Quaid-i-Azam Day on Dec 25 in educational institutions and art councils as well as at an official level. The law enforcement agencies were asked to review and update existing security plans and increase security checks at places of worship and crowded places.

Church managements will also be involved in the process and sensitised regarding the security requirements and situation.

The home department has directed local authorities to resolve local disputes, if any, between communal factions before Christmas and New Years’ celebrations.—Staff Reporter
