KARACHI: The city faced a water shortfall of around 35 million gallons per day (MGD) on Wednesday after a major power breakdown at the Pipri Pumping Station halted operations for nearly four and a half hours.
Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) spokesperson Abdul Qadir Shaikh said power supply to the pumping st ation was completely suspended at around 11am following a fault in the K-Electric network.
The outage brought pumping at Pipri to a complete halt, disrupting water supply to various parts of the city and adding to the challenges of maintaining regular water distribution in the metropolis.
The spokesperson said that the power utility restored electricity to the station at around 3:30pm, after which KWSC immediately resumed pumping operations. ‘Water supply from Pipri Pumping Station has returned to normal after the restoration of electricity,’ he said.
