CHARSADDA: Two people were killed and three injured when two groups traded fire over a dispute in the Ganjai Dag area in the limits of the Umarzai police station on Thursday.
According to a police information report, the incident involved two groups from Ganjai Dag and Amirabad Kallay.
Two men,identified asMumtaz and Liaquat, both brothers from Ganjai Dag, were injured, while Ejaz was killed in the firing.
From the other group, Naimat waskilled and Javed Ali suffered injuries.
The deceased and the injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Charsadda.
Police said the two groups allegedly exchanged fire following a dispute over a message sent through a mobile phone. Both sides subsequently lodged reports against each other.
Senior police officers, including the relevant DSP and SHO, reached the site. Police said further investigation into the incident was under way.
Meanwhile, the police on Thursday arrested a man for firing at a lady health visitor deployed on polio duty in the Mandani area.
The LHV and other members of thepolio team, as well as police personnel deployed for their security, remained unharmed.
The incident was reported in the jurisdiction of the Mandani police station.
Police said they acted promptly and arrested the alleged shooter, Shehzad from Jabagai, Malakand.
They said the suspect opened fire at the LHV after she rejected his marriage proposal. The woman fell on the road in fear while trying to escape and sustained minor scratches.
Police said a case had been registered against the suspect and investigation had been launched.
