SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Security forces foiled a suicide bombing in South Waziristan district and killed four terrorists, including the would-be suicide bomber, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Saturday.
According to the military’s media wing, the terrorists attempted to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into a security forces checkpost in the district. However, ‘their nefarious designs were checked and decisively foiled by the vigilant and resolute response of security forces’.
‘The attackers’ explosives-laden vehicle was successfully engaged and destroyed outside the perimeter of the post, killing the suicide bomber inside it and preventing any damage,’ the ISPR said, adding that the objective had been to breach the checkpost.
The ISPR further said that troops ‘engaged the remaining intruders, forcing three khwarij into a nearby compound, where they were later neutralised in a deliberate clearance operation carried out with precision, without any casualties on the security forces’ side’.
Fitna al Khawarij is the term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan.
The statement added that a sanitisation operation had been carried out in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. It said the ‘relentless counterterrorism campaign under the vision ‘Azm-i-Istehkam’ (as approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan) by the security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country’.-Dawn Report
