RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has changed the system in local government by appointing the deputy commissioner as administrator of Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) instead of the divisional commissioner.
According to the notification, deputy commissioners will be administrators of municipal corporations in divisional headquarters; all municipal committees at district headquarters will be headed by additional deputy commissioners (municipal services) of the respective district.
A senior official of the district administration told Dawn that Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation was previously headed by the divisional commissioner as administrator and now the deputy commissioner will take over the charge.
He said that all allied departments and civic bodies like Rawalpindi Waste Management Company, Suthra Punjab, Water and Sanitation Agency, district education and health authorities and Punjab Enforcement and Regulation Force were already under the deputy commissioner, and after this notification, he will look after the affairs of the municipal corporation. — Staff Reporter
