Dawn marks independence
2017-05-27
STARTING in tomorrow`s newspaper, Dawn commemorates 70 years of Pakistan`s independence. A 37-episode Special Independence Feature to end mid-August, of rare and iconic photographs curated from archives sourced in Pakistan and across the world, will unfold the seminal 42 years that went into the making of Pakistan.
The feature starts as Partition approaches with the harrowing convoys that moved across the breadth of undivided India. Then in flashback, we go to the foundation of the All India Muslim League and the powerful contribution of the Ali Brothers, Allama Iqbal and the Quaid-i-Azam. The meteoric rise of Mr Jinnah in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, the North Western Frontier Province, Kashmir and East Bengal; in Delhi, in Bombay and in Calcutta, as well as in the Princely States of Kalat, Khairpur, Swat and Bahawalpur.
Throughout we look at the people who influenced the political manoeuvres of this period. We return momentarily to Partition a reminder of the pain, the tragedy and sacrifice that were a part of those years, before ending with the Quaid-i-Azam, the monumental founder of Pakistan. With every single one of these 37 visually breathtaking features, Dawn makes Pakistan`s story every Pakistani`s own personal story.
