ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has initiated improvement of its connectivity with the Karachi port with a view to prepare for CPEC, and it has been decided to extend the railway track up to the pilot gate of the port.
This decision was taken at the second inter-ministerial meeting on improvement of rail connectivity with Karachi port, Bin Qasim and Gwadar, presided over by chairperson of the ministry of Railways Parveen Agha.
The track will be adjacent to the Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT). On the issue of condemned wagons lying on the track of the port, as raised by officials of Karachi Port Trust during the meeting, ministry officials told the meeting that all such wagons were being removed on a priority basis.
The meeting decided that the South Asia Pakistan Terminal Limited (SAPT) had to furnish vertical and horizontal coordinates for laying 1.1km of track.
