Parties demand release of detainees in S. Waziristan

SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Leaders of various political parties demanded restoration of peace, release of detained persons and removal of their names from National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) website.
The political parties` localleaders including Amanullah Wazir, Ashfaq Wazir, Ayaz Wazir, Maulana Naik Mohammad, and Maulana Zeenatullah Wazir said this while addressing a press conference at Wana Rustam bazaar here on Sunday.
The leaders stressed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government should abolish 3-MPO and immediately order release ofarrested political workers of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and other political parties.
The leaders stressed that unlawful arrests violated both the Constitution and fundamental human rights. They asked police officials to make arrests in accordance with the law.
They stated that when making an arrest, police officials must be in uniform and present theirarrest warrants.
They cautioned police personnel against conducting raids without warrants on residences while wearing plain clothes and driving private automobiles with tented glasses, claiming that this could result in undesirable occurrences involving selfdefence for which the district police high-ups would be held responsible.They called for the deployment of local police officers and the removal of non-local employees to their respective districts in all line departments of the South Waziristan Lower district.
They called on state institutions concerned to uphold law and order in accordance with the Constitution, guaranteeing the safety of local residents` lives, property, and honour.
