Student killed in Swabi road accident

SWABI, Nov 27: A first year girl student was killed and her five other colleagues were injured in a road accident here on Wednesday.

Local police said that the girls were on their way to Government Girls Degree College, Marghuz in an autorickshaw from Kotha village.

When they reached Kalabat area the over-speeding rickshaw collided with an overloaded truck while overtaking a motorcycle, added the officials.

They said as result of the collision, the rickshaw overturned, critically injuring six girls` students who were boarding the three-wheeler.

The injured were taken to Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Shahmansoor, where one of them succumbed to her injuries.

`We may have to shift the two seriously injured girls to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar,` said a doctor, addingthatboththelegsofone of the injured had broken.

The deceased girl was identified as Summyya Saboor and the injured as Sana Nubat, Lubna Begum, Sana Rafiq, Aneesa Rehman and Haeefza.

Rickshaw driver, GulMohammad escaped the area after the accident.

Police registered a case against the accused and started making efforts to arrest him.

SOFTWARE COMPETITION: The All Pakistan Software Competition (Softcom) concluded on Wednesday at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology here.

Association for Computing Machinery, GIK Institute chapter, organised the competition.

The three days event comprised speed programming, poster design, software/multimedia, walnut media, startup and web development competitions. Dr Zahid Halim, professor computer sciences, who was chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony, lauded the efforts and contributions of ACM members for making the Softcom a success.

`It was really encouraging that the students from numerous universities graced the competition,` he said.

Dr Zahid gave away prizes and certificates to teams who got top positions in different categories of the competition.
