Newly constructed dual carriageway inaugurated in Korangi

KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed dual carriageway linking Mehrunnisa Hospital with Nasir Jump and Creek Road in District Korangi, saying the Rs265.259 million project will improve connectivity between Korangi and Malir and reduce traffic congestion.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, elected representatives, City Council members and senior Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials, the mayor said the 1,700-metrelong and 9.3-metre-wide road was built to modern construction standards to ensure durability and long-term service.

‘The newly constructed road will make travel easier, safer and faster for citizens. The project will not only provide modern transport facilities but also play a vital role in the overall development of the area,’ Mayor Wahab said.

Besides the road, the project also includes supporting infrastructure aimed at improving public convenience.

A 36-inch RCC stormwater drainage line has been installed for rainwater disposal, while an 18-inch RCC sewerage pipeline has been laid to improve the sewerage system and reduce drainageproblems during the monsoon season.

The road also features 1.5-metrewide footpaths and kerb blocks on both sides, along with 53 modern electric poles and streetlights to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians during the night.

The mayor said the new dual carriageway would strengthen the transport link between Korangi and Malir while providing an alternative route near Mehr-un-Nisa Hospital Road and 16,000 Road. He added that it would ease access to SIUT Hospital, nearby industrial zones and surrounding residential areas. Calling the project the fulfilment of a public promise, he said the Pakistan Peoples Party remained committed to development and public service.

‘Our responsibility is to give people hope, solve their problems and provide them with a better future rather than spread disappointment,’ he said while also announcing that the KMC would soon invite tenders for development projects worth Rs13.5 billion while work on another Rsibn worth of schemes would begin shortly.

He said improved financial management had strengthened KMC’s finances, allowing more funds to be spent on development and public welfare. He said that Pakistan’s largest sewage treatment facility had been completed in Karachi and would soon be inaugurated, while a modern 25-acre sports complex was under construction in District West. He said more development projects would continue to be launched across the city in the coming weeks and months.
