2016-12-29
CHAKWAL: The members of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) have arrested 11 more people allegedly involved in Dec 12 Dulmial incident in which a mob attacked Ahmedis worship place.

Two people died (one of bullet injury and the other of cardiac arrest) in the incident while three others sustained injuries.

According to sources, the JIT which is being headed by the additional inspector general of police, Shohaib Dastgir, arrested the suspects including two Ahmdis, making the tally of arrests to 44.

“An anti-terrorism court has remanded the suspects to JIT,” an official told Dawn.

A former tehsil nazim of Choa Saidan Shah, Malik Hafeezur Rehman was also among the arrested persons while the main accused Haji Malik Rasheed Ahmed, a Canadian national, who allegedly planned the attack, was still at large.

Although the authorities have put his name on the exit control list, there were conflicting reports about his whereabouts. Some say he had fled to Canada before being put on ECL while others say that he is hiding somewhere in Pakistan.

The JIT is trying its best to trace all the accused. The Chakwal police registered two fresh cases against two clerics on charges of pasting anti-Ahmedi posters on the walls of their respective mosques.
