JUI threatens to crack down on land grabbers

MANSEHRA: The local Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl leadership on Wednesday complained of the administration`s failure to contain activities of criminals, especially land grabbers, in the district and threatened to begin own crackdown on them.

`We warn the administration to begin action against outlaws and land grabbers, who want to create a law and order situation inMansehra. If the administration fails to do so, we`ll crack down on them through our own means, said JUI-F leader Mufti Kifayatullah after attending the funeral of two local party workers, including Abdul Wahab and Mohammad Amjid, who were gunned down on Tuesday.

Other JUI leaders, including exSenator Hidayatullah Shah and Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Alvi, also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Kifayatullah said the administration should check crime in Mansehra district by proceeding against outlaws, especially land grabbers, who were targeting innocent people.

`We want strict action againstcriminals without delay and if that doesn`t happen, we`ll be left with no option but to take the law into our own hands for the purpose,` he said.

The JUI-F leader said his party workers were calm due to the arrest of the alleged killers but they would agitate if police favoured the alleged killers.

On the occasion, Hayatullah Shah said it was time that the government should act against criminals, including land grabbers, who are targeting innocent people.

He said poor and unarmed men couldn`t confront influential outlaws targeting their property. The JUI-F leader said the government should amend old laws to providespeedy justice to the people.

The local residents and JUI-F workers attended the funeral in large numbers.

Also in the day, police produced former district nazim Khalid Khan before the anti-terrorism court in Abbottabad over the killings. The court gave him in police custody on seven days physical remand.

MPA CELEBRATES ACQUITTAL: Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz MPA Mian Ziaur Rehman on Wednesday declared his acguittal in the fake degree case the defeat of rivals.

During a public meeting in Balakot, the MPA said his rivals had conspired to keep the poorand marginalised segments of society away from the assembly.

He said his father and former MPA, Mian Waliur Rehman, had always served the poor people and he was carrying his father`s mission forward.

Mr Rehman said he would continue working for the development of Balakot tehsil.

He said local lawmaker and federal minister Sardar Mohammad Yousaf had invited Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif to visit Balakot and it was expected that the visit would take place soon.

The MPA said the prime minister would announce projects for the welfare of the Balakot earthquake survivors.
