NAB told to initiate proceedings in graft case

KARACHI: An accountability court on Monday directed the National Accountability Bureau to initiate proceedings of proclamation and attachment of property against absconders in a corruption reference against a former police official.

Former DIG Din Mohammad Baloch along with some other suspects has been booked for allegedly misappropriating over Rs170 million during his tenure in the Sindh police.

The court had repeatedly issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of absoconers Ahmed Baloch, Riaz Memon and others but the investigation officer remained unable to execute the warrants.

Subsequently, the court directed the IO to start the proceedings against the absconding accused under Sections 87 (proclamation for persons absconding) and 88 (attachment of property of person absconding) of the criminal procedure code and submit a report till June 5.
