Govt to build flyovers in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Oct 29: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will construct three flyovers in the provincial capital to ease traffic congestion.
This was stated by advisor to chief minister on rehabilitation and transport Yasin Khan Khalil while addressing a meeting of the working group on the provincial transport department here on Tuesday.
Mr Khalil said that flyovers would be constructed at Abdara Chowk, Hayatabad and Shama Chowk. `Besides a new road will be built from Warsak Road to Tambwan,` he added.
Additional secretary transport, director transport, members of the working group, president of the Transport Union, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and officials of other departments concerned were in attendance.
Proposals and recommendations relating to granting of complete autonomy to transport department, traffic engineering unit, reactivation of the available railway track for mass transit and feasibility awards for the establishment of transport complex, also come under discussion.
The meeting reviewed different aspects of the reform agenda of the provincial government according to which the department of transport would be converted into a stable and autonomous body during next five years.
On the occasion, Mr Khalil said that serious efforts were being made for resolution of traffic related problems on important highways of Peshawar.
He said traffic related problems in other districts would also be resolved. `A transport complex will also be established on the GT Road,` he said.
Yasin Khalil directed presentation of a report on the implementation of the decisions taken in the meeting.
He said that for durable solution to the traffic problems, the government would also talk to the Civil Aviation Authority.-APP
