BAJAUR: The family of a teenager, who drowned in the Panjkora River in Lower Dir recently, on Saturday appealed to the authorities to intensify efforts for the recovery of his body.
Talking to reporters, Mohammad Ayub Khan, a resident of Nawi Dand near Khar town, said that his 15-year-old son, Abbas Khan, drowned in the Panjkora River on Thursday while visiting the area with friends for recreation on the second day of Eidul Azha.
He said that no serious efforts had been launched to recover his son’s body despite the passage of two days.
Mr Khan said the family contacted Rescue 1122 Khar station to seek their assistance after learningabout the tragedy.
However, according to him, the officials informed them that the matter fell under the jurisdiction of Rescue 1122 Lower Dir.
‘The refusal of local Rescue 1122 officials to help recover my son’s body compelled me to contact local lawmakers.
Unfortunately, none of them responded to our repeated telephone calls,’ he alleged.
Accompanied by family members, relatives and neighbours, Mr Khan urged the provincial government, local lawmakers, the director general of Rescue 1122, other public and private emergency response organisations, and the district administrations of both Bajaur and Lower Dir to launch efforts to recover the body of his son.
