KARACHI: Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, inspector general of police, Sindh, inaugurated on Monday `Shahid Hayat police riding school` at Clif ton beach.
The late Shahid Hayat was additional inspector general of Karachi when targeted operation against organised crime was launched in 2013.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Imam said that the late Mr Hayat was a courageous and proficient police officer.
He said that like other games, horse riding was also a good sport and exercise and urged students of schools, colleges and universities to visit and benefit from this school.
The IG pointed out that the objective behind this project was to provide healthy activities and entertainment to the people of Karachi and families of the police while at the same time projecting a soft and public friendly image of the Sindh police.
It was stated that the nominal charges set for learners proved that this project was not a commercial enterprise.
Karachi AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon, DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal and others also spoke and observed that the school had been named after the late city police chief Hayat in recognition of his invaluable services rendered to the Sindh police and who himself was an excellent rider and a passionate polo player.
