Private loan business to be checked: IGP

MARDAN: Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has said that they have been taking action against private people involved in giving loans on high interest rates and the resulting crimes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said this while talking to elders of Mardan city, members of dispute resolution council and representatives of the lawyers and traders at the police lines here on Thursday.

`We will not allow anybody to carry out business of private loans as such practices are giving birth to enmities and crimes,` he said. He admitted that growing murder incidents over petty monetary issues was a big problem and that they would overcome this problem through taking effective measures.

Mr Durrani lauded the role of DRC in resolving disputes among opponent parties. He claimed that DRCs had resolved about 10,000 disputes across the province since their establishment. He said that the DRC system was in fact the modern shape of traditional jirga system that was why this system was achieving its real purpose.

He said that they were trying to establish community policing to remove the bad image of police personnel from the hearts of people. He also highlighted advantages of community policing and appreciated the DRC members for working without any privileges.

Later, the IGP visited the Police Training School, Police Assistance Lines and Mardan Police Lines and met with the officials there.
