ADJACENT to Federal University and Aziz Bhati Park is a piece of land that belongs to the Karachi Water Sewerage Board (KWSB).
This is the place where water transmission lines are laid and water to the entire city is provided.
To protect this land, the KWSB has a security department. Its foremost responsibility is to to protect this land. For this purpose, the department has been given a fleet of vehicles and a large contingent of trained personnel.
However, this land is now in the grip of a notorious land mafia. It is all being done right under the nose of its security director.
Our neighbourhood which was once beautiful and green has suddenly turned most dirty. Slum dwellers live in unsanitary conditions and spread filth and garbage all around.
Because of the absense of sewerage lines in these slums, their toilet water flows right into the basement of our houses. The entire locality is infested with flies and mosquitoes.
Ever since the slums came into being, robberies and thefts have increased in the vicinity. I along with several neighbours approached the managing director of KWSB but in vain.
We hope that the authroities concerned would have these slums removed on an urgent basis and provide succour to the residents of the localtiy.
