MIRAMSHAH, Oct 30: Two schools and a market were damaged when security forces and militants exchanged fire in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday.
Sources said that the clash erupted when militants opened firing on Amin checkpost at 12 noon. The attackers fled after the security forces retaliated, they added. The security men manning the checkpost used light and heavy weapons and targeted the suspected places.
Several mortar shells landed in Miramshah Bazaar, damaging Abdul Manan Market, Alama Public School and a governmentrun primary school for girls.
The local administration imposed curfew in the area till Thursday, forcing the local people to remain indoors.
The traffic also remained off the roads. The educational institutions, government offices, health centres and markets in the area remained closed on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that a soldier and seven civilians were killed and several others wounded in exchange of fire between security forces and militants after the latter attacked Amin checkpost in Miramsha on Monday.
