Timergara hospital short of staff, facilities

TIMERGARA: Residents of Mayar Jandool here on Wednesday demanded of the provincial health department to provide the local hospital with staff and health care f acilities.

Talking to mediapersons here, the area elders, includingFazalSubhan and Fazal Rabi, said that the category `D` hospital of Mayar was built during the MMA-led government in the province with a cost of Rs40 million.

They said that they had to take their patients during emergency to other hospitals in the district because the local hospital lacked specialist doctor, lady doctor and labour room facility.

They said that the machinery provided to the hospital had been rusting without use.

When contacted, the hospital in-charge Dr Kamil said that about 50,000 people of Mayar and Maskini Darra depended on the hospital. He said the hospital had no specialist doctor while several posts were lying vacant for years. He said that due to power outages and low voltage the X-ray machine and water supply scheme of the hospital were closed.

He said that one lady health visitor and one nurse were working in the hospital while there was no birthattendant due to which female patients suf fered the most.

EYE CAMP: Commandant Dir Task Force Col Shehzad Amir said on Wednesday that after restoration of peace in Maidan area the security forces were providing health care facilities to the people of far flung villages.

Talking to local residents after inaugurating a threeday free eye camp at Lal Qila Maidan, he said that lasting peace prevailed in the area. The Pakistan Army has set up the eye camp with the financial support of Al-Shifa Eye Trust, Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, the ongoing sports competitions among the government and private high and higher secondary schools in Lower Dir enteredits second phase.

The zonal sports` events concluded on different grounds in the district. The Government High School, Mian Banda, got first position in hockey, while volleyball team of Government Higher Secondary School, Sarai Bala, emerged as winner of Talash zone. In basketball, the GHSS, Sado, grabbed the trophy. Functions were also held on conclusion of zonal volleyball, basketball and hockey competitions. Correspondent
