Akbar Liaquat Ali Khan passes away in Karachi

KARACHl: Akbar Liaquat Ali Khan son of country`s first prime minister Liaquat Ali Khan passed away in the city on Wednesday. He was 81.

His nephew Kamal Liaquat Ali told Dawnthat Akbar Liaquat had been undergoing dialysis for the past two years. On Wednesday, his health deteriorated and he was rushed to the emergency of the Aga Khan University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He is survived by two daughters.

His funeral prayers would be held on Thursday (today) after Asr at Sultan Masjid.

He would be laid to rest in the DHA graveyard.

People from all walks of life, including politicians and govemment officials, expressed their sorrow and grief over his demise.

Akbar Liaquat was a Karachi-based businessman. He attended Belmont Preparatory School and Mill Hill School in England and studied law at King`s College London. After returning to Karachi, he ran a major trading company and remained additionally involved with airlines and travel industry as well as with other businesses for years.

In a statement, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said: `The Sindh government tried its best to save his life, but Almighty Allah has chosen this destiny for him.

He directed the local administration to assist the family for making arrangements for the burial.

Deputy Commissioner-East Raja Tariq met the family at the hospital and discussed funeral arrangements with them.
