QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday announced that by-election in the NA-260 constituency (Quetta-Chagai) would be held on July 15.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party’s senior deputy chairman Abdul Rahim Mandokhel last month.

According to the schedule announced by provincial election commissioner Mohammad Naeem Jaffar, nomination papers could be filed between June 12 and June 14 and scrutiny would be held from June 15 to 17. Candidates will be able to withdraw their papers till June 19 while appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers could be filed on June 19.

Mr Jaffar said polling would be held on July 15, adding that the election commission had released a code of ethics for the by-election.

“There will be a ban on postings and transfers of officers in the constituency and announcement of development schemes after the election schedule is released,” he said, adding that the election commission would ensure a transparent and fair polling.
