`Steps taken to ensure supply of clean water`

R AWALPINDI: The Punjab local government and community development department has enforced water supply and sanitation regulations in the province in order to provide clean drinking water and improved sanitation system to the citizens.

According to the regulations, the municipal staff would adopt precautionary measures besides ensuring timely maintenance and proper supervision of the water reservoirs and sewerage system in their respective areas.

This was stated by Director General Local Government and Community Development Department Shahid Nasir Raja at a `Clean and green training workshop` organised for the local government officials here.

The capacity building training session was organised by the LG&CD department with the cooperation of Unicef.

Dr Waseem Akram, the adviser to the chief minister, informed the participants about the current situation of dengue prevalencein the province.

He asked the tehsil municipal officers to remain vigilant in their areas and do their utmost to checl< dengue larvae, especially during the monsoon rains, so that it could not become an epidemic during the dengue season.

Dr Waseem was of the view that any untoward situation can emerge if proper measures were not adopted to control dengue.

He also shared figures of previous years relating to dengue cases. Shahid Nasir Raja said the water supply and sanitation regulations would enable the community to get safe drinking water.
