Bilawal likely to visit Peshawar during Ramazan

PESHAWAR: Pakistan People`s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is likely to visit Peshawar during Ramazan to hold meetings with PPP office-bearers and devise a strategy for strengthening the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Although Mr Bilawal`s visit has not been scheduled so f ar yet it is stated that he would stay at least for three days in Peshawar to hold meetings with party workers from different districts of the province.

Some of the PPP senior workers said that the recent five-day stay of Mr Zardari and his meetings with party office-bearers, annoyed workers and aspirants for different offices in various districts and Fata was perhaps a newidea for a leader of his level.

During his five-year tenure in the government, Mr Zardari never bothered to give a chance to the people to hear their complaints, pay heed to their suggestions and take serious steps to remove groupings and reorganise PPP in the province.

Itis up to centraland provincialleaders of PPP to assess as to what they got from the five-day meeting s.

Apparently, it seemed that PPP workers had no serious complaints and suggestions as they only wanted to have a photo with their leader.

During the past one year, many senior workers have said goodbye to PPP in the province.

They include former MNA Noor Alam Khan, former Town-I nazim Haji Shaukat, Kifayatullah Orakzai and Ashfaq Khalil.

Many others are stated to join PTI sooner or later mainly in Peshawar.

The visit pf Mr Zardari helped to mobilise PPP workers to some extent but the tempo to maintain contacts with them could not be maintained due to arrival of Ramazan. Theresult of the proposed visit of Mr Bilawar will also be the same because most of people in the province prefer to take rest and offer prayers instead of taking in political activities during Ramazan.

The differences among PPP leaders in Peshawar are also very clear now. PPP provincial president or any other office-bearer alone cannot bring a change unless there is strong coordination at least among the cabinet members.

Mr Zardari`s visit proved that the party still had to face many challenges for such kind of coordination among the senior PPP workers.

Many of the PPP senior workers are of the view that Mr Zardari`s visit would have far reaching effects if it was scheduled after completion of the reorganisation process of the party.

The reorganisation process is going at a snail`s pace because different wings of PPP are yet to get office-bearers. However, the people having wealth and support of workers will always get seat in the front row on every occasion.
