BADIN: Jamiat Ulema-i-IslamFazl(JUI-F)SindhGeneralSecretary Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro haslaunched ascathingattack onthe Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), accusing its leadership of using the ongoing debate on the division of Sindh in the provincial assembly as a political ‘drama’ to divert public attention from what he described as 18 years of corruption, bad governance and failure to resolve basic problems.
Addressing a press conference at Jamia Qatar in Badin on Friday, Mr Soomro said the people of Sindh would never allow their land to be divided and warned that any attempt to split the province would face strong resistance. He said the PPP lawmakers’ threeday debate on the division of Sindh in the Provincial Assembly was difficult to understand, claiming that the party had remained in power for nearly two decades but had failed to deliver basic public services.
‘We believe the PPP has ruled Sindh for 18 years, but corruption has increased and the people’s problems remain unresolved. Now the Sindh division issue is being raised to mislead the people and conceal the failures of the government,’ he alleged.
Mr Soomro also criticised PPP leader Faryal Talpur’s reported remarks in the Sindh Assembly, in which she said that the party would have to answer former prime minister Benazir Bhutto if the issue of dividing Sindh arose.
He questioned why the PPP leader-ship, while speaking of accountability to Benazir Bhutto, did not consider what answer it would give to Almighty Allah regarding corruption and poor governance in the province.
The JUI-F leader levelled serious allegations regarding the sale of police postings in Sindh. He claimed that officers were allegedly paying Rs40 million to secure SSP postings and around Rs7 million every month as a ‘monthly’ payment. The allegations could not be independently verified.
He further alleged that the incumbent political set-up had come to power through ‘Form 47’s results’ and said that if the rulers had secured victory through Form 45, they would have a better understanding of the problems confronting ordinary citizens.
