Rescue 1122 out to rescue environment

LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) organised a series of functions in the province to celebrate the World Environment Day.

Civil society activists, district emergency officers and rescuers planted saplings under the campaign `Let`s not be wasteful` in the province to mark the day.

The day was celebrated to raise awareness and motivate the masses for taking steps for clean and beautiful environment.

District emergency officers and rescuers also organised walks, planted saplings and distributes pamphlets in their areas.

Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said they were improving the environment by mobilising the power of humanity through Rescue Mohafiz corps of one million volunteers to establish sustainable, healthy, safe, resilient and more prosperouscommunities in the province.

He said that Rescue 1122 had launched the plantation drive through Rescue Mohafiz Corps for healthy environment, which would automatically reduce major emergencies or disasters like floods.

He directed emergency officers to reduce environmental degradation by ensuring emergency preparedness and response and prevention of emergencies and also work for prevention of traffic accidents, clean water and sanitation solutions, cleaning and recycling campaign.

He said awareness should be raised about activities for tree plantation, garbage recycling, surrounding areas clean-up, parades, to draw people attention towards wide range of environmental issues.

Mr Naseer said that they should run awareness campaigns in educational institutions to restore original beauty of this planet as gifted by the nature.
