Court orders action against three policemen for seeking bribe

KARACHl: A district and sessions court on Tuesday ordered police authorities to take action against three policemen for allegedly demanding a bribe from a gang-rape victim and misbehaving with her in custody at the Malir City police station.

An additional district and sessions judge (Malir) also ordered the police to arrest three absconding suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping of the teenage girl and subjecting her to rape in April.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim deposed that on April 13 she was kidnapped by a man who took her to a house where two men were already present.

She further testified that the three men, who were armed with weapons, threatened her of dire consequences and raped her at gunpoint.

The 16-year-old victim deposed that the police raided the place on the same night and recovered her. She said the police officials also took all the suspects into custody and shifted them to the Malir City police station.

She alleged that the police officials let off the suspects after taking a bribe from them.

She told the court that the three policemen also demanded Rs50,000 from her.

She testified that as she was not able to pay the money the policemen took her to a room in the police station, where they stripped her and misbehaved with her.

She asked the court to order a strict action against the policemen.

After recording her statement, the additional district and sessions judge (Malir) ordered the police high-ups to take strict action against the three policemen of the Malir City police station and submit a compliance report by next date.

The court also ordered that the case regarding alleged gang-rape should be shifted from the Malir City to some other police station and the three fleeing suspect should be arrested and produced in court.
