MoU signed for plantation in city

KARACHI: Administrator Laeeg Ahmed on Saturday said that contract had been signed with Dawat-i-Islami`s Faizan Relief Global Foundation to make a tree-plantation campaign successful.

He said this while addressing a ceremony held at Frere Hall for signing of memorandum of understanding between Karachi Metropolitan Corporation parks and horticulture department and Faizan Relief Global Foundation.

Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, director general of parks and horticulture Taha Saleem, Faizan Relief Global Foundation`s executive director Shahrukh Attari, Yaqoob Attari, Mohammad Ameen and others were also present on the occasion.

Director parks Junaidullah Khan signed the MoU on behalf of KMC while Shahrukh Attari signed on behalf of Dawat-i-Islami.

According to the agreement, plantation would be carried out in a scientific way at six main roads of Karachi. They would also preserve and take care of planted trees.As per MoU, the foundation would assist KMC in plantation at six arteries of 57 kilometres. The localities included Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, University Road, Malir Halt Road, Korangi Industrial Area`s 8,000 Road.

The plantation campaign would begin from Feb 15 and will continue tillApril15.

The MoU is signed for three years and can be extended with agreement of both sides.

The administrator said that there was a dire need to make Karachi green in the wake of environmental pollution.

The administrator said that KMC`s parks and horticulture department would choose the plants in consultation with experts while Faizan Relief Global Foundation would provide the plants along with sand.

He said that workers of the foundation would also look after these trees for three years.

The administrator said that Dawat-iIslami had done exemplary work by supporting KMC in plantation.

He also asked other organisations to come up and work for the city`s betterment.
