Muqam seeks...

2016-11-07
PESHAWAR: The ruling PML-N has asked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar to resign from his post before moving court against federal government on the issue of ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, PML-N central senior vice president Eng Amir Muqam asked the provincial speaker to tender resignation as his stand was unconstitutional.

He said that speaker of the assembly was supposed to be neutral like judge. `Asad Qaisar should step down if he is serious in moving high court for western route of CPEC,` he added.

The PML-N leader said that the speaker should study constitution to know if he could move court on such issues. He said that constitution did not allow him to fulfil his personal or his party`s wishes.

Mr Muqam, who is also adviser to prime minister, said that CPEC would bring prosperity not only to a particular province but to all parts of the country because the mega project would help to boost economy of Pakistan.

The PML-N leader said that CPEC was a game changer but PTI was trying to create hurdles in its way.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had agreed at a seminar on August 29 on CPEC but then suddenly changed his stance and started issuing statements against the mega project. He said that huge foreign investment could come to the country through the multibillion dollars project but PTI was busy in politicising it.

Mr Muqam said that failure of the mega project would neither harm Prime Minister Nawaz Sahrif nor PML-N but it would detriment the Pakistani nation.

Criticising PTI for its plan to lockdown Islamabad, he said that the PTI leaders wanted to raid Parliament House and take resignation from the prime minister but interior minister and Punjab government handled the situation carefully.

`People have rejected the PTI lockdown politics. It could be judged from the low participation of people in the protest rally,` said the PML-N leader. He added that PTI had claimed that one million workers would participate in the protest sit-in in Islamabad but it did not happen.

He appreciated Punjab police for taking action against PTI, saying that those coming for attack on state did not deserve any leniency.

Mr Muqam said that for the first time in the country`s history a chief minister misused national resources and helicopter for his party`s activities. He said that PTI leaders wanted to paralyse life in the federal capital but they failed to do so. He said that PTI`s protest was nothing but point scoring.

The PML-N leader alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had forgotten its agenda and started very negative activities. `We know which kind of change the PTI has brought in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa` he added.

To a quarry regarding governor rule in the province, Mr Muqam said that PML-N had no intention to impose governor rule. He said that PML-N could topple the provincial government of PTI since beginning but Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif did not allow it.
