Avenfield verdict given at wrong time: ANP

NOWSHERA:Awami National Party general secretary Mian If tikhar Hussain on Saturday said the conviction of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield case would af fect the election results.

`This type of court verdict should not come close to the general elections,` he told a public meeting in PK-65 constituency here.

The ANP leader said the decision against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield case was delivered hurriedly. He said ironically, PTI chief Imran Khan was not arrested though he remained an absconder in a case for three months.

Mr Hussain said the accountability court had decided the case against the PML-N1eader at a wrong time as the verdict, which had come just before the general elections, would af fect the poll results. He said the ANP would continue opposing the construction of Kalabagh dam as it would harm the Pakhtuns and therefore, it shouldn`t be used for political purposes.

The ANP leader claimed that expert Shamsul Mulk had misguided the nation on Kalabagh dam.

He said the federal government had stolen water from Tarbela dam through Ghazi Barotha waterway.

Mr Hussain said the ANP would review the design of Ghazi Barotha waterway after coming to power. He warned that his party won`t allow any harm to the interests of small provinces to benefit the largest province, Punjab. He said the party would offer strong resistance if any bid was made to roll back the 18th Amendment, which was passed by parliament after many ef forts. Correspondent
