KARACHI: The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) is continuing with its mandated clinical activities along with facilities that are earmarked for Covid-19 patients, stated a spokesperson of the institute on Monday.

`In March this year when the Covid-19 pandemic started surfacing, the institute took a historic decision and stepped forward voluntarily by initiating its professional services for incoming patients of coronavirus.

`The prime objective was to mitigate the suffering of the population besides supplementing the efforts of government general hospitals,` he said.

The institute, he pointed out, created new facilities for coronavirus patients without disturbing their immunocompromised patients of dialysis, transplant and cancer which was not easy.

Till middle of June, over 7,800 patients were screened at SIUT including some 1,003 patients who were treated at the f acility.

The free of cost services being provided by SIUT include testing, case tracing, disease monitoring, infection prevention and follow-up care of patients.
